1st day

So, yesterday was the first day of the experiment.
I honestly can't say that I feel a difference in my lifestyle, it is obviously too soon now, but I can say that it will be hard not to use hot water in the shower, especially with the windy rainy weather today at Freiburg.
The first challenge yesterday was not being able to eat at the local Mensa (student's cafeteria/canteen) since we don't actually know where the food is coming from and we only want to eat locally produced goods.
With this in mind, Brendan (Australia) and me (Mexico) went to the local Markt at Münster. There we found the first temptation.... Curry wurst.... meat wrapped in a small bun that smells like it tastes (probably since I never had one), but if it does ufff.... delicious. Since I don't eat meat anyways I didn't have much of a problem but I think I can't say the same about good ol' Brenno... he was suffering but he was strong and ate a cool locally made bread with seeds.. (yeah!).
I think that it is going to be more expensive than originally thought. We bought Bio-vegetables at the market and they were soooo expensive... let's hope they taste as they cost.

Starting the Experiment!!

Hello everyone!!!

The objective of starting this Blog is to share with you the experience that 5 people from around the world will have for 4 weeks, during which we intend to live as sustainably as possible while conserving a "normal" social life.
The Experiment:

The 5 of us will try to do our everyday activities more sustainable. This means that we will try to avoid consuming items/embarking on activities, that have non-nature friendly substances, non-recyclable materials, highly pollutant elements, high electric consumption, etc.
The aim of the experiment is to see how different individuals, coming from different backgrounds can embrace more sustainable consumption patterns while living in the same town and share their experiences with their Masters study colleagues.  Our experiences will be filmed and will be part of a short documentary to be created in the following months.  Stay tuned!

This whole effort is part of what will be one of the elements of a Student Organized Event (SOE 2011) to take place on the first quarter of 2011, as part of the Masters in Environmental Governance @ Uni Freiburg, Germany.

So welcome to the 4 Week Experiment, we hope you like it.
